What fuels our society's addiction to growth?




According to Serge Latouche, these are the ingredients that make the consumer society to keep spinning at an ever increasing speed:
  • Advertising. It makes us desire what we don't have and undervalue what we have. 90% of American CEOs admit that it woud be impossible to sell their products without advertising. 
  • Easy access to credit. Used to help people without enough income to buy what they can't afford.
  • Planned obsolescence. This is the ultimate weapon of consumerism. Product lifecycles get shorter and shorter, forcing the disposal and replacement at ever increasing speeds.
